Lockout is an alternate BingoMC mode where everyone competes over the same bingo card. When one player or team gets an item on the card, that item is locked out for everyone else.
This changes the pace of the game: fast routes, quick decisions, and denying opponents matter more because every claimed item removes an option from the other players or teams. The normal rules it replaces, and everything else that stays the same, are covered in how Minecraft bingo works.
In a public game, lockout is one of the options players vote on before the game starts. The Minecraft bingo server guide covers that vote and the rest of the default rules, and the cards themselves are drawn from the Minecraft bingo item pools, same as any other game.
How Lockout Works
- All players or teams race for items on the same bingo card.
- The first player or team to collect a card item claims it.
- Once claimed, that item is locked and cannot be claimed by anyone else.
- Locked items still stay visible on the card so everyone can track the game state.
How You Win A Lockout Game
Normal bingo is won by filling a line, or the whole card if full card is on. Lockout is won on count: the player or team holding the most items wins. Nobody can complete a line on their own once an opponent has taken a square out of it, so the race is for volume rather than for a shape.
That one change is what makes lockout a different game. In normal bingo you only ever look at your own card. In lockout the card in front of you is also the scoreboard, and every item someone else claims is an item you cannot have.
Lockout Versus Normal Bingo
- One card, not one each. Everyone is working on the same 9, 16, or 25 squares.
- Win condition. Most items, rather than a line or a full card.
- Items run out. Every claim permanently removes an option for everyone else.
- Denial counts. Taking an easy item an opponent was obviously heading for is worth as much as taking one you needed.
- Pace. Cheap items go early, and the end of the game is whatever nobody wanted to commit to.
Lockout Strategy
Lockout rewards reading the other players as much as reading the card. A few things that tend to hold:
- Sweep the cheap items first. Items you can get in the first two minutes are worth the same single point as anything else on the card, and they are the ones most likely to be taken from you.
- Commit to one biome or structure at a time. Crossing the world for one item usually costs more than the item is worth.
- Watch what gets claimed. The pattern of locked squares tells you where other players are and what they are set up to do. Three nether items vanishing at once means somebody is down there and the rest of that cluster is gone.
- Late in a game, count. If you are ahead, take anything safe. If you are behind, go for the items nobody else can reach yet rather than the quick ones.
- In teams, split the card instead of all chasing the same square. Two players racing each other for one item is a wasted trip for one of them.
The Minecraft bingo item pools page is worth reading before a serious lockout match. Knowing which items a difficulty can actually produce is most of knowing what to rush.
Using Lockout In A Game
You need the Plus rank to enable lockout when setting up a game. Plus and other ranks are available on the BingoMC shop.
Lockout works well for private matches, team races, events, and smaller groups that want a more direct head-to-head version of Minecraft bingo. Because being second to an item is worth nothing, it rewards a different plan than a normal game, covered under lockout in Minecraft bingo strategies.
Frequently asked questions
What is lockout bingo in Minecraft?
Lockout is a bingo mode where every player or team competes over one shared card. The first player or team to collect a card item claims it, and that item is then locked for everyone else. Locked items stay visible on the card so you can see where the game stands.
How is lockout bingo different from normal bingo?
In normal BingoMC each player works on their own card, so two players can collect the same item. In lockout there is one card and each item can only be claimed once, which makes fast routes and denying opponents matter much more.
Do I need a rank to play lockout bingo on BingoMC?
You need the Plus rank to turn lockout on when you set up a game. Ranks are available on the BingoMC shop.
What is the best lockout bingo strategy?
Take the contested items first. In lockout an item locks the moment anyone claims it, so being second is worth nothing. Strip the cheap items near spawn that every opponent can also reach, leave the ones only you are positioned for until later, commit to one region instead of splitting your route, and watch the claimed squares to work out where opponents are.
Can you play lockout bingo in teams?
Yes, lockout works with teams as well as individual players, and a team claims an item for the whole team. Creating Bingo Teams games needs the Pro rank.
How do I play lockout bingo with friends?
Create a private game from the lobby NPC and enable lockout in the settings. A private game holds up to 16 players and can be restricted to a join code you share.
